Being an education major, I love discovering new and informational children’s books.  So, when I discovered the opportunity to review and giveaway National Geographics newest kids books, I jumped on it.  I received a copy of the 2011 Almanac and Weird But True!  I received these one day while I was sitting on the couch with my boyfriend.  So, if you’ve been reading my posts you can probably guess what ended up happening.  I opened the package, began reading the Weird But True and my boyfriend started looking at the Almanac.  Yep, two 20-somethings sat on the couch entertained by two children’s books.  Haha!  We can’t help it!  Everything I’ve been receiving lately has been soo interesting!

So, let’s start with the Weird But True.  This little books is filled with 300 awesome and random facts!  For instance, did you know that the clock on the hundred-dollar bill says 4:10?  Or, how about that your fingernails take six months to grow from base to tip?  This small book is full of little facts like these.  Once I started reading this book, I seriously couldn’t put it down because I couldn’t wait to read more.  I can imagine a child being entertained for a long while with this book.  It even has awesome illustrations to go with it.  I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Finally, the Almanac 2011 is just as great.  The information is grouped into wonderful sections including animals, science, geography, history, culture, adventure, the future and more!  My boyfriend really liked this one!  I read some of it after him and it is really intriguing.  I really liked one of the pages on a baby panda.  It had several pictures of the panda as it grew from birth to several weeks old.  As an education major I really liked that it includes several homework helper pages throughout.  It has a page on writing a letter, writing a good essay, and using a map, just to name a few.  The book even mentions the Titanic a couple of times!  Yay! 

I will be keeping these books for future reference and possibly use in the classroom.  Both books are full of interesting info that any person of any age would enjoy.  Both books would be great to get rid of summer boredom or for reference in school projects and reports.
