How to Know if Someone Has Hacked Your Yahoo Email
So, you probably read my post yesterday, someone hacked my Yahoo email account. At first, I didn’t know what to do. However, I started thinking about things and wanted to investigate to have proof that I didn’t somehow send the spam messages in my sleep. Haha! So, I started looking around my Yahoo stuff and realized I might as well create a tutorial in case my readers wanted to know how to find out if someone has accessed their Yahoo account without their knowing. So, here you go, my very first tutorial. *Squeeeee* Note: I realized once I uploaded my screenshots that they weren’t very clear or big. Sorry, but it’s the best I got. Haha!
Ok. So, first thing is you need to be logged into your Yahoo mail account. From there, you should look in the top left corner, which should look like this (except, it will read Hello, “your name” and not Lindsay).

You need to click the “Help” to bring down a menu of options. Then, click “Help” in the menu (between “Mail Plus” and “Send Feedback”). That will open up another window. From there you should look on the right hand side of the screen for “Edit Account Info” which can be seen here…

Click that and you will have to log-in to your account again. Then, you will arrive at another page which should look like this…

From there, you will need to click on “View Your Recent Login Activity” under “Sign-in and Security”. It’s the last one on that list on the left hand side. That will present you with a list of the last 10 times your account has been accessed. You may need to click for it to show more if it doesn’t show you the full 10. Here is where I got my proof that I wanted. Take a look at what I discovered…

If you notice, I logged in on the 27th from my computer (the entry on the bottom). However, the next two entries are from… Switzerland! Plus, they were using Yahoo! Mobile (which I don’t use). The 10:23 AM is me logging back in from my computer at my house in Virginia. Fyi: You can also view the IP Address of these log-ins by going to the top of the list and looking for “Location” on the top right and clicking it for a pull down menu. Then, you can click “IP Address” and it will show you the IP Addresses of the last 10 log-ins. I researched the hacker and they did in fact use a phone from a Switzerland provider.
If you notice suspicious activity on the screen, you should change your account’s password immediately by clicking the “Change Your Password” located at the bottom of the activity page. You can also notify Yahoo! of the incident, if you so wish.
So, what did you think of my first tutorial? Did I leave anything out? Was this helpful to you or did you already know how to do this and I am behind? Haha! Let me know what you think or find out in the comments.
Disclosure: This post is in no way associated with Yahoo!, nor is Laughing Lindsay. I was not compensated or given anything for this post. I simply thought I would allow my readers to learn from my experiences.

Great tutorial! You might also note that you should really use a complex password conisisting of upper and lower case characters and numbers. This makes it much more difficult for someone to hack!
Thank you so much. I know mine was hacked, but I didn’t know what to do about it. Until you put this up, I didn’t even know you could do this.
Holy cow! I did this and someone is logging in to my account from an IP Addy in California…I am in Texas. I have noticed my mail acting hinky and logging me off, but didn’t really notice anything else. Password changed! Thanks a ton! Great first tutorial!
thanks Lindsay- I had no idea TWO of my accts got hacked! EEK! tut very well done!
Thank you!!
My sbcglobal account through yahoo recently got hacked too.
My yahoo.com.au email account has been hacked and I was able to reset the password but I am taken to a Chinese Yahoo web site when I log in and of course I can’t read anything! No idea how I can get my account back as the hacker seems to have set a redirect as the Inbox has no new messages.
youre going to make a GREAT teacher, cuz this tut was perfect!
Great job! I honestly don’t get why then want your account. People are crazy!
thanks for the tips! the other day i thought my email account was hacked but turns out i just forgot to log out from school library, and they changed my name to justinbieber lol
My yahoo account was hit by a “Blackberry phone email update” email this morning. I was logged in on my computer though and it notified me that my account may have been compromised and I immediately changed my password. Hopefully no emails were sent out though.
My Yahoo is fine but I got hacked on my Google Account. Doesn’t make for a happy day. Life is so much more complicated than it used to be and will be even more so.
Are you sure you aren’t leading a double life and flying to Switzerland to make deposits in your bank vault there?
Thanks, this helped me find that I was hacked by China….
Weird, I was hacked by Hungry in my gmail account the other day, and last night my yahoo was hit. I think either my Iphone was hacked to get my passwords or have a keylogger on one of my computers. I dont know how to check the iphone, but I will be scanning both computers today for anything that might be on them.
Thanks again.
I gotta say after several years on the Internet, this was the first time my email got hacked (that I’m aware of) I was tipped off by out of office replies from people I hadn’t emailed. Then a friend was letting me know that he wasn’t have a problem with his erections. Oh yeah, I had been hacked. LOL
thanks so much for the tutorial.
