Last Week of Student Teaching Kindergarten

Wow! I truly can’t believe it! I am preparing for my last week in my first placement for student teaching. In some ways, I’m very excited to move on to my second placement (middle school). However, I am going to miss the little kids and my wonderful mentors. The experience in kindergarten has been exhausting, challenging, and sometimes entertaining. I will definitely always remember the people I’ve come into contact with during this experience. I have learned so much from everyone and I am thankful for everyone that has helped me thus far (including my students).

I should have some free time this week as I’m slowly giving the classroom back over to my mentor teachers. Friday I will be strictly observing again. I hope to work on some posts during this time to get ahead. The past few weeks have been some of the busiest and most draining weeks of life. There have been good days and days I wondered why in the world I was doing this (as in student teaching and my choice of college to attend). However, I can honestly say that I have never doubted my decision to go into teaching. So, I guess that is a good thing. My mentor is insisting on having a good-bye party for me on Friday. Do any of my readers have any suggestions for (cheap) gifts for my mentors or students?

Oh, this also means that there’s only two more months until graduation! Woot! icon biggrin Last Week of Student Teaching Kindergarten I’m super excited about that! So, leave me some encouragement for getting through the next few months in the comments, please.

Congrats! For an inexpensive gift for your K students, use the die-cut machine at school to cut out a fancy shaped bookmark. Put their name on it with permanent marker. Add a hole with a hole punch and a small ribbon “tail”.

For your Mentors…give them a couple of highlighters with a tag that says “You Have Been the HIGHLIGHT of My Year” thanks.
OR dollar store Hand Sanitizer with a hand shaped tag “Thanks for Giving Me a Hand”

For your Students…get a bag of Smarties candies at the dollar store and give each student a roll of the Smarties with a tag “It was a pleasure working with such smart students”

Student teaching can be so stressful, but sounds like you have been doing a great job!
My daughter worked as a paraprofessional in kindergarten with special needs students while she attended college. She did her student teaching in the middle school. Now she teaches high school Special Education. I am glad you are getting to experience different ages of students.

Wow. That is quite an accomplishment. Don’t want to scare you, but after completing the middle schoolers, the accomplishment will be exponentially greater. Those little middle school darlings! Anyway, good luck. Back in my school days, when I got tired of working on a project and wished I was doing something else, I’d remind myself that what I was doing was making an investment in myself; so keep up the good work. It will come to an end.
