One of my favorite board games to play is Monopoly. So, naturally I wanted to try the newest edition of it that incorporates my iPad. It’s called Monopoly zAPPed because you have to download a free app from the Apple app store to play the game. The game incorporates both the iPad and the board with pieces. I was pleasantly surprised to see how Hasbro had been able to do this.
I was afraid the game would rely too much on the board or too much on the iPad. However, it’s a nice back and fort thing. You have your updated game pieces (same choices just different design) and dice that you use with the board. So, you still move around the board. Then, you don’t have to count your money anymore. You have debit cards which you use with the iPad like an ATM to buy, sell, rent properties or pay taxes. The app also has the community chest and chance. The cool thing about the app having community chest and chance is that there are mini-games you play for those. I will say that some of them took some time to figure out how to do. Hint: most of it is just tapping, rather than sliding. It is fun to play against an opponent on the iPad then return to the actual game where you may have won some extra money.
I played this with my boyfriend one night and we had lots of fun. That is until I lost one of the mini-games and had to pay 3.5m.
I eventually had to go bankrupt when I lost the game to him again. I would have been fine if it hadn’t been for losing a random 6.5m. Haha! Nonetheless, I will play it again. I think it would be even more fun to play with more people. You can have up to 4, so that may be a great number so you aren’t constantly playing the same person in every mini-game. One thing I found to be annoying was that you had to line up the card on the iPad just so or it wouldn’t read it. I don’t know how it works, but it’s cool. I just wish you didn’t have to be so precise with it. It was annoying to the point of comical sometimes when we couldn’t get the iPad to read our card.
Overall, I think it’s a brilliant new direction for Monopoly. Incorporating the new technology and designs while still keeping some of the classic pieces/ideas makes for a great twist on an old game. So, have you played this version yet? What did you think of it?
Disclosure: I received a free copy of Monopoly zAPPed. No compensation was received. The opinions expressed are my own.

what a great idea, incorporating technology into one of our fave games!
OMG!! My son would LOVE this! Monopoly is his favorite game and he has an iPad. This may be a Christmas gift for him. Thanks for sharing.
My family loves this game too!
Crazy how technology is taking over board games
I’ve got to try this. I love Monopoly and having an iPad version will help make my daughter interested in playing.
