Unlikely Friendships for Kids Books Giveaway

Unlikely Friendships for Kids Books 300x144 Unlikely Friendships for Kids Books Giveaway

Since I still don’t know what grade I’ll be teaching, I’m still hoarding books. Haha! So, when I was pitched about a new set of books called Unlikely Friendships for Kids, I was interested. I realize that it can be very hard to get kids interested in reading. They need to be interested in the subject to enjoy the reading or to get going. I also know that many children love animals. Plus, everyone likes friends. I thought it would be nice to have this new set of books on hand in case I work with students who read on a lower level and need something new and interesting to read.

There are three books so far by Jennifer S. Holland in this set. Each book has five cute stories of animals who became friends even though we don’t initially think of them getting along. There are cute pictures of the creatures bonding in each story. It’s the proof that they really did get along. Also, it breaks up some of the text. The first one is The Monkey and The Dove. The second book is called The Dog and The Piglet. Lastly, there’s The Leopard and The Cow. As you can see, just from the titles, there are interesting pairings in these books.

I liked that all of these books had a list of animals at the end. The list included a brief description of each animal. The can help to introduce students to the students prior to reading the stories. There’s also a Word and Phrase List at the back of each book which features vocabulary that may be new to the reader. I think these books are just fabulous. If I have an opportunity to use them while teaching, I won’t hesitate to do so. I mean I can imagine lesson plans around them already. You can introduce the words and animals at the beginning and discuss them. Perhaps, you can have students draw pictures of what they think the animals look like. Then, you can actually read the short story with them. See what I mean? They are so easy to use in a lesson. Overall, I am very impressed with this series and think they will prove to be useful.

Now, one lucky reader will win the set of three books (pictured above) from the Unlikely Friendships for Kids series.
