Last year, I posted Ripley’s Believe It or Not Strikingly True Book Giveaway and the year before that there was the Ripley’s Believe it or not Book Giveaway. So, clearly I’m aware of the awesome-ness that is Ripley Books. I just love seeing what they come out with each year since they make an annual every year. They always seem to have a new theme to them. This year is no different.
Let me introduce you to Download the Weird. In the 9th title in the annual series, they have tried to bring the book alive. The 2013 annual features the same cool assortment of facts that we are used to from Ripley’s. However, now there is a Ripley’s Believe it or Not app to correspond with the book. The app can be downloaded in the Apple App Store or in Google Play. Then, when you see an OddScan image in the book, you point your phone at it to reveal additional content on your phone! This means that you can get the whole story now. You can read about it, look at pictures of it and sometimes even watch a video of the stunt. Isn’t that neat?
One section I was very happy to find in this book was on Titanic. You already know that I’m into all things Titanic. So, I was extremely happy that they included a fold out so that the book contains 4 whole pages on the ship. I very much enjoyed reading and learning more about Titanic (among other things in the book). I was very pleased to read new stories that I had never heard of before. Although, that is just like Ripley’s to include new stories to fascinate us. For instance, did you know there was an unknown impostor aboard the ship? Someone stole a man’s discharge book at a pub and then proceeded to board the ship as him. The man’s mother thought he died on the ship. However, he showed up a month later and told her what had happened. So, some unlucky man died on the ship and we still don’t know who he was.
Once again, I am very pleased with the Ripley’s Believe It Or Not annual. They always manage to find the best stories to share. I’m sure people at Ripley’s must have busy jobs tracking such great facts. This book is perfect for other fans of this series of books or someone who likes reading trivial things. Plus, the app adds some technology to the experience which should interest even more people. So, what do you think of this year’s edition?
Disclosure: I received a free copy of the book. No compensation was received. The opinions expressed are my own.

sounds like another great book by ripley’s!
I think this is a very interesting book and I like that they added an app to it that can make it even more interesting.
