I recently had the joy of receiving the Bossypants book to review. Bossypants is the story of Tina Fey’s life. In case you don’t recognize the name, she was on Saturday Night Live (SNL) and she’s on 30 Rock now. The book starts with Tina Fey’s childhood and takes you through to her present day dilemmas (have a child now or try to get out a few more movies?).
I really liked this book. If you enjoy Tina Fey’s jokes and humor in her recent works (Mean Girls movie, Sarah Palin on SNL) then you can enjoy it as well. Tina manages to tell her life story in a way that is serious yet comical. She also manages to throw in some real life advice (for instance, you probably shouldn’t hike up a mountain in Virginia at night in hopes of making out with a guy when he brings along another guy friend and no flashlights or water – this really happened to her!).
I really enjoyed reading about Tina’s relationship with her father. I’m a daddy’s girl and I believe Tina might be as well. Her dad is a strong, opinionated Republican. Haha! Imagine some of the tension when she did those skits on SNL of Sarah Palin.
I also loved that Tina included some real things in the book. For instance, there are several pictures of Tina when she was younger which are just adorable! 😀 Then, she also included some scripts from SNL (the Sarah Palin scenes). Tina also recollected her favorite jokes from 30 Rock.
While I have been crazy busy trying to get through the semester, this book was definitely a nice distraction and stress-reliever! It is very funny and easy to relate to. She even tries to communicate with male readers at times! Haha! Overall, it’s a great read!
So, have you read Bossypants? What did you think? What do you think about Tina Fey?
Disclosure: I received a free copy of Bossypants. No compensation was received. The opinions expressed are my own.
