On February 2nd, the Bridge of Spies movie came out on Blu-Ray and Digital HD and I received a review copy.
Bridge of Spies Movie
My fiance and I always love a good Steven Spielberg movie. We also typically enjoy movies based on historical events. So, needless to say, we were pretty excited to view the Bridge of Spies movie when it came out earlier this month. In case you haven’t heard about this movie, it’s inspired by real life events based on James Donovan’s experience to negotiate the release of an American U-2 Pilot in exchange for a Russian spy during the Cold War.
Additionally, I want to share this video with you depicting Donovan (played by Tom Hanks) taking the case.
The Bridge of Spies movie presents the viewer with a story we’ve not heard before. Tom Hanks portrays the character perfectly. His acting skills really help to illumniate what Donovan must have felt and thought when he accepted this monumental task of setting up the exchange. With Steven Spielberg’s directing skills, you can feel the tension rising as Donovan attempts to get the Russians to free the pilot all while attempting to free an American college student too.
While the movie is a bit long (2 hours and 21 minutes), they managed to tell the whole story behind the exchange. I viewed the movie with my fiance and we remarked that while it was a bit longer than the typical movie we’ve watched recently, we wouldn’t have shortened it. They really didn’t include anything that didn’t need to be in there.
The Bridge of Spies movie presents what a challenging case this was for Mr. Donovan and how important it was for him to be successful. Plus, it also sheds light on how life was back during the Cold War (for us younger folks). It’s interesting to compare people’s reactions to historical events and present day events.
Bridge of Spies is a brilliant story told by remarkable characters and actors. It made for the perfect date night in activity with all of the snow we’ve had. So, have you seen the Bridge of Spies movie yet? What were your thoughts?
