Modern Family Complete Second Season Review

Modern Family Season 2 224x300 Modern Family Complete Second Season Review

I have been hearing about the show, Modern Family, for a while now. It seems like it’s always winning awards and being talked about. However, I never have time to watch it for various reasons. So, I thought it would be good to watch it just to see what the big deal was. In case you don’t know what the show is about, here is a synopsis:

The Pritchett clan has Jay sitting at the head, a true guys’ guy experiencing a bit of mid-life crisis, has remarried a much younger wife, Gloria, whose passion and loyalty is matched by her 11-year-old son, Manny, a boy wise beyond his years. Blending together into this new family has quite the learning curve with some culture clashes, a few awkward misunderstandings, and plenty of sweet victories along the way

Jay’s grown daughter, Claire, has her own family. Claire and Phil are the proud parents of three kids with whom they want that open, healthy, honest relationship. It’s not always easy, especially when you have a teenage daughter who’s growing up a little fast, a too-smart-for-her-own-good middle daughter and a scatterbrained boy. On top of that, Phil wants to be the “cool dad,” while Claire is just trying her best to run a tight ship, determined not to let her kids have the rebellious childhood she had.

Claire’s brother and Jay’s grown son, Mitchell, adopted a Vietnamese baby with his partner of five years, Cameron. Opposites attract in this household, with Cameron having a wonderfully big personality and maybe a flare for the dramatic, whereas Mitchell is the more serious of the two. They balance each other out and are doting fathers trying to do their best as new parents.

Doesn’t that sound like a bag of mixed fun? I’ve been watching the second season with my boyfriend. Neither of us had watched a single episode prior to me receiving this season. So, I wasn’t sure if it would be hard to get into or figure out the characters and such. However, it didn’t take us long to figure out the unique family structures/relationships in the show.

Both of us have watched Married with Children which starred Ed O’Neill. So, it was a bit hard for us to comprehend him being old enough to play the grandfather in this series with children being grown adults. However, it is believable.

Both my boyfriend and I like the show. We can sit down and watch a couple episodes in a row without getting bored. It’s an entertaining show for sure. Most episodes have at least several laughs. The characters are relate-able as we’ve all been stuck in awkward situations and had to deal with people. Watching the show has become a great way to unwind and relax with my boyfriend.

I can’t pick out a favorite character from the show. I think they are all so interesting and humorous. My boyfriend’s favorite is Mitchell. So, I guess you could say that there is a plot or character for everyone. We have definitely been enjoying Modern Family. The Complete Second Season of Modern Family is available on DVD and Blu-ray now.

What about you? Do you watch or like Modern Family? Who is your favorite character?

Ricky Gervais Show: First Season Review

RickyGervais Ricky Gervais Show: First Season Review

I recently received The Ricky Gervais Show: The Complete First Season on DVD to review. I was happy to get this because it is from the creators of “The Office” which I really like. This show is an animated version of the podcasts that are in the Guinness Book of World Records for the most downloads! This show also won the 2010 Emmy for Outstanding Achievement in Animation Character Design! Here is a clip from this season to introduce you to the show.

As you can probably tell from this clip, the hilarity ensues from the point forward. I love Karl’s crazy ideas/stories on this show. His diary entries are priceless! Ricky’s laugh gets me every time! Bahahaha! I like how Stephen sort of eggs things on. Each person contributes something to the show. Now, since the show is on HBO, I wouldn’t recommend buying this for young audiences. However, I thoroughly enjoyed it. I actually laughed out loud several time while watching this season.

Also, I just love the animations. They match the podcast perfectly. Plus, the cartoons match Karl’s insane stories wonderfully. The animation is a great addition to the podcast. I can see why it won an Emmy. It feels like I’m watching a regular talk show with the addition of being able to see the hosts’ stories acted out. It’s actually really nice.

Season One can be now be purchased as it came out on DVD on January 4th. Also, Season Two premieres Friday January 14th at 9 pm on HBO.

Disclosure: I received a free copy of the first season of The Ricky Gervais Show for review purposes. No compensation was received. The opinions expressed are my own.

The Big Bang Theory: The Complete Third Season DVD Review

TheBigBangTheory The Big Bang Theory: The Complete Third Season DVD Review

I was very excited to receive another wonderful dvd to review from Warner Brothers. This time, I got The Big Bang Theory: The Complete Third Season! If you haven’t heard of or watched it before, here is a little bit about it!

Worlds collide in Season 3! A love affair with Penny has opened a big, wide, wonderful world of romance for Leonard. But Sheldon likes the world just the way it was, thank you. All of which makes for a zany comic triangle with brainy, clueless Sheldon and practical, grounded Penny hilariously vying for the role of hypotenuse. This complete 2-Disc, 23-Episode Season 3 Set also features Raj, Howard, tattoos, football, awkward dates, jail time, Stan Lee, a The Lord of the Rings ring and all the fun of a series that only gets better. The Big Bang Theory “has transformed from a cute comedy about eggheads and their hottie neighbor into an addictive ensemble piece that could be this decade’s answer to Friends” (Lynette Rice, Entertainment Weekly).

I started watching this show during its second season and have fallen in love with it! I love Sheldon! He’s probably my favorite character! Here is a brief clip for the third season with all of they guys in it.

Aww! I think they are adorable! This is definitely the perfect comedy for us geeks! Although, you don’t have to be intelligent to enjoy the humor and situations. It’s a great comedy that I think many people could laugh at. I watch this show, my boyfriend watches it, and my dad watches it! Perhaps, we are all a bit geeky. All I know is that we really like it. The Third Season came out on DVD on September 14th. The Fourth Season started Thursday night (its new time at 8:00 pm) and it’s the perfect time to go out and get this season to catch up on everything!

America The Story of US Giveaway

I’m once again very excited to bring you something from the History Channel! This time it’s something equally as educational and fun.

AMERICA: THE STORY OF US
With 12 chapters spread out over three discs and a total running time of more than nine hours (not including bonus material), the History Channel’s America: The Story of Us is a sprawling primer on the history of the country and its people. Starting about 100 years after Columbus with the arrival of the earliest white settlers from across the Atlantic and finishing in the present day, the series can boast episodes devoted to major conflicts like the Revolutionary War, the Civil War, and World War II; the more gradual but still significant developments that helped shape the nation and the various elements and forces that combined to make the United States the world’s dominant superpower in the 20th century and beyond.

This would be awesome for that US history teacher’s classroom! I can definitely see myself using this in the future! Plus, it’s really interesting. It’s also wonderful for the history buff in your life (it’s never too early to start thinking about Christmas gifts). Or, if you home school, this could work well, too. This series is PERFECT for any teacher or homeschooling parent! It’s also great for anyone interested in learning more about these topics! I watched some of these with my boyfriend and some alone. So, let’s get started on this lovely set!

The French Revolution Instant Expert DVD

is an epic tale of political rebellion and economic upheaval. From the grandeur of Versailles and the marriage of Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette, to the disintegration of the revolution nearly a decade later, THE FRENCH REVOLUTION details this pivotal period in European history.

This one was interesting and enjoyable. It wasn’t my favorite, but I liked it. This is great for the world history teacher!

Beowolf Instant Expert DVD

The legend of Beowulf, the Viking world’s most famous warrior, is the ultimate tale of courage. Pit against thirsty invaders, barbaric monsters, and a fire-breathing dragon, BEOWULF emerged as Norse mythology’s greatest hero.

I read Beowolf in my senior English class in high school. This dvd would have fit nicely with that section. It’s an informative dvd that would be the perfect addition to any English/Literature class’s library.

Benjamin Franklin Instant Expert DVD

Narrated in a straightforward, conversational tone, BEN FRANKLIN features in-depth interviews with renowned biographers and historians, as well as on-location reenactments shot in high-definition, for a truly remarkable walk in this founding father’s footsteps.

I found this dvd to be truly interesting. It’s full of facts and never gets boring! I really liked it! It’s wonderful for that history teacher or buff! I will be keeping this for future use in the classroom for sure!

Mayflower Instant Expert DVD

The epic saga of the pilgrims and their journey to and colonization of the New World is one of the fundamental narratives of our nation. THE MAYFLOWER explores the true story of the pilgrims and how the colony’s saga continued in the decades after their fateful voyage.

Wow! I learned so much from this dvd! I didn’t know that they had been planning for their journey for years prior to actually leaving! This dvd is seriously packed with info! Another great dvd to have if you are teaching history or if you interested in the Mayflower or that time period!

Egypt Instant Expert DVD

Through cutting-edge digital graphics and interviews with noted Egyptologists, EGYPT explores the civilization’s awe-inspiring engineering accomplishments, chronicling the pharaohs and feats that helped build the world’s first superpower.

I actually watched this one with boyfriend! I think he may have enjoyed it slightly more than I did! Just like the other dvds in this selection, it is full of facts and information! There is just so much to learn in this dvd! Plus, the imagery is beautiful! This is a really nice dvd on Egypt that is great for the classroom!

The Story of Oil Instant Expert DVD

An energy source unrivaled in efficiency and power, oil is the driving force behind today’s industries and economies. THE STORY OF OIL traces the story of oil through the centuries, from its birth deep in the dinosaur-inhabited past to its
ascendancy as an indispensable ingredient of modern life.

This dvd provides the watcher with much information on oil. I never knew most of that is included in this dvd. It also helps that it’s not boring! It’s truly interesting!

Overall, this is a wonderful set of dvds for any teacher/future educator, homeschoolers, or history buff! I was really pleased with this set! Plus, it covers important topics that are still relevant and being taught today. Also, I really enjoyed the quiz at the end of every dvd. I only wish that the answer was displayed right after the question rather than just telling you if you were correct or incorrect. However, it does give you all of the correct answers in the answer key at the very end. I really like this set and I’m sure many others will, too!

The Middle Season One on DVD Review

I recently received the very first season of the very funny sitcom, The Middle on DVD to review. I had seen only one episode prior to receiving it and thought it looked kind of funny, but I wasn’t sure what it was all about. Here is the synopsis I received about it:

Patricia Heaton stars as Frankie Heck in this warm and witty single-camera comedy about raising a family and lowering your expectations. Frankie Heck is a superhero. Well, no, not an actual superhero – but sometimes it seems to Frankie as though getting her kids out the door for school every morning is a superheroic act. Middle aged, middle class and living in the middle of the country, this harried wife and working mother of three uses her wry wit and sense of humor to try to get her family through each day intact.

Are you interested yet? I was. I started watching this with my boyfriend because we seem to have the same tastes in comedies/sitcoms. Wouldn’t you know, we love it! It’s so funny! Here is a clip from this season!

Bahaha! One of my favorite characters from the show is the little boy! I think he’s adroable/weird! I love when he whispers to himself! It’s great! We are about 2/3 done with this season. However, that is because we like it so much that we don’t want it to end. We are savoring it! I don’t know as if everyone will like this sitcom, but my boyfriend and I love it! I also think my family likes it! This show is easy to relate to and is full of laughs. It makes me feel not so bad about life (and previous yearbook pictures). Haha! Seriously, you should check out this sitcom! It comes out on DVD today (August 31st) and I highly recommend it!

Disclosure: I received the first season of The Middle for free for review purposes. No compensation was received. The opinions expressed are my own.

One Tree Hill Season Seven Review

Starting today (August 17th), you can buy season 7 of One Tree Hill on DVD! I don’t know about you, but I’ve been a fan of the show for a while. I first started watching it while I was in high school (around season 4 or 5). However, I didn’t watch this season with classes and all. So, if you don’t know about One Tree Hill, here is a brief synopsis about season 7.

The journeys of those who hail from the town of Tree Hill have been vast, from Nathan and Haley’s first kiss to marriage, a son and, most recently, Nathan’s return to the basketball court. Now in its seventh season, One Tree Hill continues to explore the journeys of its beloved characters, while seamlessly introducing new favorites. As the series jumps ahead 14 months, these new relationships infuse the history and change the lives of those who live there. Through it all, these friends and family members realize that life always leads you right where you belong.

Having watched season 6 I wasn’t sure what to expect from this show since Lucas & Petyon left. What I discovered in Season 7 was new characters and new storylines! How exciting! One of these new characters is Nathan’s sports agent, Clay. One of the scandals to rock Tree Hill this season was a woman who claimed to be pregnant with Nathan’s love child. Here is a scene from the season where Haley reacts to the possibility of paying this woman off so she won’t go public with it (Nathan is in a contract year).

Wow! Talk about drama! One of the saddest parts of the season comes when Haley’s mom comes to Tree Hill to tell her daughters that she is dieing. Yikes! I must admit, I cried a little when she did die! One of my favorite characters on this show is Nathan and Haley’s son. I think he is adorable, especially when he picked out a suit to wear to the film festival! Haha! What a cutie!

I don’t want to reveal too much about this season, but I was very surprised by the season finale and can’t wait to watch the new season! There is so much going on in this season, it’s impossible to cover it all in this review. Suffice it to say that after watching the first episode I was hooked and I watched the entire season within 2 days time – all 22 episodes! If you are an old OTH fan, you’ll love it for sure! If you have never watched it, now is the time to own One Tree Hill on DVD and get prepared for season 8.

Also, you can get the inside scoop on WB movie & DVD releases with WB Reel News

New Adventures of Old Christine

I recently received New Adventures of Old Christine Season 3 on DVD to review. This hit show…

officially released July 27 on the WBShop.com. The beloved show starring Julia Louis-Dreyfus (Seinfeld) joins Eleventh Hour and Dark Blue as the latest TV series to be released exclusively online through the Warner Bros. Manufactured On Demand DVD initiative.

Life gets even more complicated for Christine in season three when she recognizes that her ex-husband, Richard (Clark Gregg – Ironman), has moved on with his life and his impossible-to-hate new girlfriend, aptly named New Christine (Emily Rutherford – Van Wilder). While successfully juggling the daily stresses of motherhood and owning a woman’s gym with her best friend, Barb (Wanda Sykes – The Wanda Sykes Show, Curb Your Enthusiasm), “Old” Christine realizes it may be time to move on with her love life as well. Things get steamy for Christine as she embraces a romantic relationship with Mr. Harris (recurring guest star Blair Underwood – Dirty Sexy Money, Something New, L.A. Law), a teacher at her son Ritchie’s school. Will Old Christine finally find new love?

The storylines in this season lead to many awkward yet funny moments. My favorite episode is probably the 2nd one titled “Beauty is Only Spanx Deep”. Haha! It’s amazing what lengths women go to to look good.

Here is a clip from this season.

Isn’t that funny? I think their relationship is very unique! There’s always something slightly humorous going on there! As a woman I can easily relate to this series and Christine. I think this just proves that it’s never too late to start watching a show. I would recommend it if you are the mood for something different and funny.

Disclosure: I received a free copy of the 3rd season for review purposes. No compensation was received. The opinions expressed are my own.

Life DVD Set Review

 Life DVD Set Review

I recently received the Life DVD Set to review.  Life comes out on DVD today (June 1, 2010)!  Life was filmed over 3000 days and shows all sorts of animals and plants from all parts of Earth!  It is from the producers of Planet Earth and The Blue Planet:  Seas of Life and is from the BBC and the Discovery Channel!  It is also narrated by Oprah!   Life DVD Set Review

Life shows tender moments like in this picture with mother and child.  It also shows intense moments between a hunter and its prey.  I do not consider myself to be an animal person.  I selected to review this dvd set because it look interesting and sort of geeky.  Well, I was not disappointed.  This series is beautifully shot!  I wonder how they got some of the wonderful shots!  Some of the scenes are breath-taking and beautiful.  Some are simple and cute, like the one in this adorable video clip!

 Life DVD Set Review

It’s no wonder that this series had a budget of $22 million!  Every scene is clear and wonderful.  It looks good on even older televisions (I watched it on multiple tv’s because there is 484 minutes on 4 dvds).  Each episode is less than an hour long, but it packs so much into that time.

My favorite episodes includes the first one, Challenges of Life, the third, Mammals, and the last one, Primates.  I really enjoyed seeing the relationships Life DVD Set Review (or lack thereof) between the various animals.  I really can’t say enough good things about the quality of this series.  It should be a science teacher’s dream come true.  I could definitely see a teacher using this in the classroom!  It almost makes me like animals!   Although, I did not care for the hunting/stalking of the prey.  Those scenes are a bit graphic, I think.  They aren’t something I would show a young classroom, but maybe to a high school class.  Even so, I know it’s part of the wildlife and I’m just glad I’m not a wild animal!

Check it out and buy Life now.
