Warner Bros. made a modern retelling of the classic Cinderella story with A Cinderella Story: Once Upon A Song. What really got me interested in the film was the actress who plays the main character Kate. Lucy Hale who stars in the ABC Family show Pretty Little Liars plays the part. I’m a big fan of that show, so I thought it would be interesting to see her play a different character. What I didn’t realize is that Lucy can apparently sing as well as act. Here is the movie’s trailer/opening scene to give you a better idea of what I’m talking about.
Isn’t that a catchy tune? I was also happy to learn while watching the film that Kate’s wicked stepsister is played by Megan Park who is on another ABC Family show, The Secret Life of the American Teenager. Additionally, Missi Pyle from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory fills the role of the evil stepmother in this film (I knew she looked familiar in the film).
I thought the movie was an interesting retelling. I enjoyed seeing modern/young stars in the film. I think Warner Bros. really tried to make the film appeal to a younger audience with the storyline and actors selected. That is fine with me as that will hopefully get younger people interested in reading about Cinderella. I enjoyed all of the music in the movie as it sounded good and real. Overall, it’s a pretty good movie.
This movie came out on DVD and digital download on September 6th from Warner Home Entertainment Group. A companion soundtrack featuring 4 original songs from Lucy Hale also came out on September 6th (it includes the song “Run this Town” from the clip above).
Have you seen this movie? What did you think of it?
