This past week was my first week as a new teacher. I’m happy to say that I survived it and am looking forward to the second week. However, I was super busy and at times overwhelmed.
My First Week as a New Teacher
As you may recall, I accepted my first teaching job over a week ago. However, since that announcement, I haven’t been around as much. I actually went 3 whole days without a single blog post! I hadn’t gone that long without a post in years! It’s not that I didn’t care or miss my blogging world (trust me, I did). It’s just that I was extremely busy.
I will say that I’m extremely lucky because my principal has allowed the teacher I’m replacing to stay in the classroom with me for 2 weeks. So, my first week as a new teacher was overwhelming, but at least I had someone there to help me. This past week I spent time trying to learn my new schedule, learn 100’s of names, getting to know the curriculum, etc., etc., etc. I really feel like so much has happened to me over the past week or so. I still can’t believe that I signed my contract just 1.5 weeks ago.
In addition to trying to take over the classroom, I was also having to drive 2 hours each day! My school is an hour away from the house. My first period also begins an hour earlier than I’m used to. So, that means I’m having to get up at 5 am right now! Then, it takes me an hour to get home after I work all day. Needless to say, that is exhausting.
I did actually sit down to blog on Tuesday night. However, I discovered that someone had hacked my site and posted spam on it. 🙁 Then, I spent a while trying to figure that out. By 9 pm though, I was so frustrated and tired, that I just went to bed. My host assures me that they have removed the hacker’s account and malicious content. So, I’m hoping that I can put that whole thing behind me. It just upsets me that I have worked so hard on this site for 4+ years now and someone can come along and mess it all up. I’m hoping I caught it and removed it in time for Google to have mercy on me.
Additionally, tomorrow (November 4th) is my birthday. So, my second week as a new a teacher will begin on my 24th birthday. Here’s to hoping I’m able to figure out a good schedule that includes more time for blogging and sleeping. Haha!
So, what do you think of my first week as a new teacher?
