I participated in this healthier buttery spread campaign on behalf of Mom Central Consulting for Smart Balance. I received product samples, and a promotional item as a thank you for participating.
You may recall that a close family member was recently diagnosed as a diabetic. Since then, we’ve been trying to eat better. That person has even lost some weight since being diagnosed. In our constant struggle that is trying to be better, I knew I had to try the healthier buttery spread from Smart Balance, which is now better than ever.
Healthier Buttery Spread
So, let’s talk about the health benefits of using this healthier buttery spread. It contains no hydrogenated or partially hydrogenated oils and is naturally 0g trans fat! I was also happy to see that it is designed to help improve the ratio of good HDL cholesterol to bad LDL cholesterol, since my cholesterol was out of whack the last time it was checked. So, it’s clear to see why Smart Balance was high on my list of new things to try. We want to eat better, but we still want our food to taste good. Smart Balance is allowing us to compromise with taste and the benefits.
Another great aspect that is new to the healthier buttery spread line is the square container (hence the reason it’s hip to be squared). It still contains a delicious 15 oz. of the product. However, it’s square shape saves space and the environment. The square shape doesn’t take up as much room in the refrigerator. So, it’s really easy to store it. In fact, the containers I received fit right in the door of our refrigerator! So, that’s a plus as some round containers won’t fit properly in the door. Additionally, this new container reduces greenhouse gas emissions by 18%! That equals 6,487 newly planted trees each year. I’m all for saving the trees. Lastly, I think this shape is easier to hold onto and use with a bit of an edge to grasp.
Overall, we were definitely impressed with the Smart Balance healthier buttery spread. We first tried it on some corn on the cob and it was delicious. It tasted just like regular butter, but I didn’t feel bad about eating it. I think it would also be a great substitute in the coffee cake I made earlier this week as it’s a 1-to-1 substitute for butter. So, have you tried Smart Balance or its new square containers yet? What did you think of it?
