I received the mouth-watering and surprisingly healthier cupcakes pictured above from Twiggy’s Cupcake Diet. Twiggy’s Cupcake Diet was created to give everyone a healthy, all natural, no preservative cupcake. The cupcakes range in calories from 130-170 calories, with 2-5 grams of sugar, 7-10 grams of protein, and 7-8 grams of fat! Wow! That’s way better than any other nutritional facts I’ve read on cupcakes. Needless to say, the combination of being healthier and cupcakes sounded perfect to me! 😀
There are six different flavors of cupcakes. The first one I tried was the Ying Yang – a chocolate cake with vanilla frosting. I tried it first because that’s actually what my usual favorite cupcake is. I think I was used to buttercream frosting because the frosting tasted a bit different to me (not bad, just not buttercream). The chocolate cake was nice, but I could tell it had a lot of protein in it. The Black Velvet or chocolate cake with chocolate frosting was really good! I loved the addition of chocolate in the frosting. It was sweet but not too sweet.
The Plane Jane (vanilla with vanilla) was good too. I liked that it was just vanilla. However, I’m a huge chocolate addict, so I preferred Not So Plane with chocolate frosting on vanilla cake. It was delicious! Yummy!
My favorite cupcake was the Beta Carrot-ine which is carrot cake with vanilla frosting. I could actually see the bits of carrot in the cake, which was exciting. It had a nice texture to it and was really tasty!
I do not like lemon, so I actually allowed my boyfriend to try the Who’s Your Poppy. I did take a bite of it, but that was it. The cake is lemon poppy which tasted significantly like lemon. I did like the appearance the poppy seeds gave the cake – it was unique. The vanilla frosting went well with the cake.
All of the cupcakes were really good, especially for being healthy cupcakes. They do come frozen and you are supposed to store them as such. I had a hard time allowing a cupcake to defrost for a couple of hours. Haha! However, if you can hold off, I would recommend it as the cupcake tends to be a bit dry if you eat it too soon.
The cupcakes arrive in 100% recyclable “to-go” containers, which I thought was extra cool. Then, each cupcake has its own tooth pick flag with an inspirational message (loved it). This new cupcake company is going places, I can tell. 😀
Disclosure: I received a free cupcakes. No compensation was received. The opinions expressed are my own.
