As recently as August, I wrote a post about dealing with life not going as planned. I’ve really tried to open myself up to my readers on my blog over the past year or so. So, you’ve seen me handle several major life changes recently. While I enjoyed being a substitute teacher for over a year, it wasn’t the position I was working for. For a long time, I have felt like a huge failure and disappointment because I wasn’t a full-time teacher. I’ve never felt that way before and it effected me in a way I couldn’t have predicted. I’ve been bitter, depressed, upset and all-around negative for months now. However, I’m super excited to announce that I got a teaching job this week!!!
I Got a Teaching Job
The picture above is actually of my first classroom. I started out being picky about the jobs I applied for. However, I quickly realized that doing that wasn’t going to help me get a job here. There’s definitely NOT a teacher shortage here in southwestern Virginia. In fact, the job market is extremely competitive here. When I went to sign my contract on Thursday, the HR lady even told me how lucky I was to be getting this job because it is so hard to get a teaching position right now.
However, I like to think that I got a teaching job because of my persistence and hard work. The position that I have accepted came from me applying for a position just because I could. I didn’t think I would get it or have high hopes about it. I was surprised to get called for an interview. This was actually my 20th teacher interview to date. So, I didn’t even get excited when the interview went well (I’ve learned that a good interview doesn’t always lead to a job offer).
While this position isn’t my dream job that I posted about in March, I really think I’m going to like it. I got a teaching job in 6th grade math at a small school in a rural community. I’ve already met the staff and faculty at the school and I absolutely adore them all. The students seem awesome as well. So, I’m very happy and thankful to begin my newest adventure in life.
I want to add that I intend to keep blogging. However, I don’t want to make any guarantees about the frequency in which I do so going forward. The school is actually an hour away from my house. So, I have to get up at 5 am for the time being. I’m hoping to find an apartment or something that is closer to the school soon. In the mean time, I got a teaching job and I’m really happy about that.
