It makes me sad to say that I am in fact, looking for a teaching job again.
Looking for a Teaching Job
As you recall, I was super excited to accept my first one back in late October. Since then, I’ve been around here significantly less. The past 8 months have been super stressful for me as I handled a less than ideal first year teacher job with little to no support. Thankfully, Friday was our last day of school with students. Now, I have 2 teacher workdays before I can check-off my first year of teaching.
However, this ending is a bittersweet ending because I am now once again looking for a teaching job. You see, I signed a “remainder of the year” contract. So, my job was for the rest of the school year. This is a standard practice when a school district hires someone after the school year has begun. Until a few weeks ago, I was under the impression that I would simply re-apply and re-interview for my position for next year.
Almost 3 weeks ago now, I was informed by another teacher that my position was in fact going to be filled internally next year. That is to say that thanks to the newest round of budget cuts (in which the county cut an additional 11 jobs), they are shifting tenured teachers around to keep them employed. So, I find myself looking for a teaching job again since my job will be given to someone else in the county who is being moved into it.
I am going to miss the kids. I hate the additional pressure of looking for a teaching job since I moved for this job. However, I’m hopeful that I will find a school or position that is a better fit for me (fingers crossed). However, it’s a really hard time to get into the educational field. So, I’m not going to hold my breath (so to speak). I would appreciate any and all happy thoughts or well wishes as I begin the search again.
