Almost two years ago, I was able to post a One Tree Hill Season Seven Review and told readers about how I had been watching the show since high school. Needless to say, I was very sad to see the show end but very excited to have the opportunity to feature the show once again. I received the ninth and final season on DVD which comes out today (April 10th). I had watched most of the episodes already, but had missed a few of them. Plus, it’s always nice to have the final season to watch again and again. Actually, I now own several seasons of the show (first, second, sixth, seventh, and ninth). So, it’s nice to add this one to my collection.
*Caution* If you haven’t seen the whole season, then I wouldn’t recommend reading my review as it contains spoilers. 😀
I wasn’t sure how the writers of the show were going to handle this season since I thought most story lines had been tied up last season (since they didn’t know if they were going to be renewed or not). However, the writers never disappoint on OTH and they managed to bring up new story arcs and really put things (and people) to rest in this final season. This 13 episode mini-season was a great way to end the series. I was blown away by the revelation that Clay has a son. Wow! I was not expecting that one. However, it made for a great link with Quinn as they finally got engaged (and married) this season. I had been waiting on those two to finally tie the knot, so I knew they had to do it soon. I was a bit surprised that they got married at the courthouse with just the three of them and a justice of the peace and a witness. However, it’s a great way to end that portion of the show.
I knew that James Lafferty was on contract for a few episodes, but I wasn’t sure how that would work out story wise. The writers devised a genius plot that had Nathan away from home and off the screen for several episodes. Plus, Dan was able to redeem himself (which is something he wasn’t able to do at the end of last season). I was glad to see that take place, but sad he had to die. I was also pleased to see Lucas come back for a brief moment this season.
The last episode really helps the viewer to see that all of the characters we’ve come to love live happily ever after, even Brooke with her whole family. I am really happy with this final season. Usually, I’m left wanting more from a finale. However, everyone involved with this show really delivered. Many oldies came back for an episode (or several). I was hoping to see Peyton again though. Oh, well. I guess we can’t have it all. Either way, I was pleasantly surprised with the way things end. Let’s just say there are marriages, renewed relationships, and children.
So, did you watch this final season of One Tree Hill? What did you think of it?
Disclosure: I received a free copy of One Tree Hill Season 9 on DVD. No compensation was received. The opinions expressed are my own.
