You know me being the education major that I am, I love to do reviews on educational/study products. So, when I was pitched to do a review of SOAR study skills, I thought it sounded really cool. SOAR stands for Set Goals, Organize, Ask Questions, and Record Your Progress. I figured if nothing else, the materials might provide for an interesting read. I was actually really impressed with the entire system.
I received the study skills book as well as the organization supply kit. One of the first things in the book is a quiz to see HOW you are smart. I have learned about multiple intelligences in my education courses and figured I would know my results. So, I was not surprised to learned that I am really “self” smart (intrapersonal), followed by “people” and “word” both of which are good things for being a teacher. Sadly, my lowest intelligence is “nature” with a big fat zero! Haha! Finding out what you’re good at is important as it gives you the confidence to accomplish your goals. I thought it was a wonderful way to start the book. The study skills book is packed full of helpful information and tips to getting your student(s) or yourself organized and ready to study. I consider myself a pretty organized person with a planner that I love. However, it was nice to hear that I had selected the right kind.
I also learned a new trick from the book: use a binder clip to keep your place in the planner (versus flipping through the pages). The supply kit even came with a clip to get you started. So, I thought that was really handy. I’ve actually been using my planner with the clip and I really like it. I guess it’s the small things that really make a difference. I mean it saves me time and headache. The kit comes with a high quality/sturdy binder and some notebook paper. So, you really can get started on following the tips from the book. Plus, the folders are included so you can get them ready for when the time comes to use them. It is also of great quality. Granted, you could find those items at a local office supply store or other where. However, it was extremely convenient to already have my supplies in hand when I started looking through the book.
This is definitely a good tool for students, parents, and educators. I think everyone can learn at least a few new tricks for staying organized or studying with SOAR. Just to let you know some of the great stuff from SOAR Study Skills, you can actually check out their free study skills toolkit. Plus, they even have a guarantee if you don’t find the product to be helpful, they will give you a refund! So, they stand by their products.
Have you ever purchased, used, or read a SOAR Study Skills product? What did you think of it?
Disclosure: I received a free book and supplies kit. No compensation was received. The opinions expressed are my own.
