History Channel The Presidents DVD Set Giveaway

Presidents DVD History Channel The Presidents DVD Set Giveaway

I’m sure we all know that this year is a big year, election-wise. We will be voting for the office of President this year. So, it’s a great time to learn more about the office, including its previous holders. As you already know, I love the History Channel and getting to view historical programs. Naturally, I was pretty happy to watch The Presidents from them.

Based on James McPherson’s Pulitzer prize winning book, To the Best of My Ability, THE PRESIDENTS is the most comprehensive documentary series ever filmed about the presidency, chronicling all 44 Commanders in Chief — from George Washington to Barack Obama.

This definitive and comprehensive eight-part series, narrated by actor Edward Herrmann, shares the stories of the distinctive individuals who have guided America throughout its history—their powerful personalities, weaknesses, and major achievements. Featuring rare and unseen photographs and footage, unexpected insight and trivia from journalists, scholars, and politicians such as Walter Cronkite, David Brinkley, Wesley Clark, Bob Dole, and former President Jimmy Carter, the Presidency has never seemed more compelling and human. As the 2012 election cycle gets into high gear, A+E Networks has beautifully repackaged this best-selling set, now 50% slimmer, and included a bonus DVD – the feature-length documentary “All the Presidents’ Wives”, as well as a tour of national historic sites and rare presidential artifacts. Viewed within the changing contexts of each administration, this four-DVD set offers unparalleled insight into the men who have presided over the Oval Office.

This set is actually really cool and interesting. I think it’s fascinating to watch the office become what it is today. This set is filled with wonderful facts and tidbits. Every President is introduced with a trading card that has their picture, name, years in office, and other cool facts. I watched some of this series with my boyfriend. We both enjoyed it. It’s cool to watch something educational for fun, I think. I mean, it’s better than most things on tv these days.

I also think this series will prove to be good to have on hand, if I should get a job teaching social studies. Each DVD has a main menu where you can select to play just a certain President. So, I could introduce a chapter or time period by showing just that President’s piece. You could also watch it to do a review of a time period. The series is very informative yet entertaining.

The Sitter DVD Giveaway

The Sitter DVD 215x300 The Sitter DVD Giveaway

I don’t know about you, but I love a good funny movie. I really enjoy watching comedies, especially with my boyfriend. It’s nice to sit back, relax, and watch something funny with him. I mean, with a blog called “Laughing Lindsay”, how could I not enjoy a good laugh? icon wink The Sitter DVD Giveaway This is why I was excited to feature the new movie from Twentieth Century Fox, The Sitter.

Jonah Hill Takes You Where No Babysitting Movie Has Gone Before in the Outrageously Raunchy and “Totally Irresponsible” Edition Arriving on Blu-ray, DVD and Digital Download March 20th

What A Difference A Day Makes!

The Sitter packs loads of action into a mere 24-hour time span, and while that seems nearly impossible, this film is not the first to attempt such a feat! Check out these 24-hour classics!

Superbad Movie 300x193 The Sitter DVD Giveaway

Superbad

The Sitter’s star, Jonah Hill, also stars in this comedy penned by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg when they were just 15 years old. It’s two weeks before high school graduation for Evan (Michael Cera) and Seth (Hill) and they have snagged invites to the party of the year. In attendance will be the objects of the boys affections and they hope a little alcoholic lubrication will get them in their good graces. But two inept police officers (Rogen and Bill Hader) complicate matters, making everything twice as hard for the nerdy, lustful duo.

Dazed and Confused

The date is May 28, 1976, and it’s the last day of school in the suburbs of Austin, Texas. For the incoming freshman, this means caution while the new reigning seniors giddily hunt them down for ritual hazing activities like tortuous spankings and rolling around on the hot pavement whilst being decorated with condiments. For others it means parties, romance, defying parents, rebelling against the high school regime. It is possibly the best night of their young lives with friends they will never forget.

Escape From New York

In 1997, crime in the United States has increased 400% and Manhattan has been turned into one giant maximum security prison. Surrounded by a 50 foot-tall containment wall and mines on all bridges and patrolled waterways, nobody is allowed in the prison, not even guards. But when the President’s flight crashes into Manhattan, a convicted bank robber, portrayed by mullet-era Kurt Russell, is sent in for a rescue. All in a day’s work!

Wet Hot American Summer

Before he was the “Sexiest Man Alive,” Bradley Cooper was part of a wet hot ensemble that also included Janeane Garofalo, David Hyde Pierce, Michael Showalterm, Marguerite Moreau, Paul Rudd, Molly Shannon, Christopher Meloni, Elizabeth Banks, Michael Ian Black, Amy Poehler, Zak Orth and A.D. Miles. The movie, which takes place in 1981 on the last day of camp for Camp Firewood, has everyone scrambling to find a hot summer send-off kiss by midnight!

Ferris Bueller’s Day Off

Perhaps the quintessential movie about a single, memorable day. Who could forget a day filled with – among other things – deceiving mom and day, stealing a Ferrari, impersonating a mogul, a five-star meal, performing in a parade, a baseball game, a marriage proposal and making out with a young Charlie Sheen in a police station. No one does 24 hours like writer/director John Hughes who also gave us a day in the life of The Breakfast Club and Sixteen Candles.

I have seen Superbad and Ferris Bueller, from the list above. I thought both were funny movies. So, if The Sitter manages to be anywhere near as crazy or fun, it should be a good movie. Now, one of my readers will be able to find out!

Whats Your Number DVD Giveaway

Whats Your Number DVD 224x300 Whats Your Number DVD Giveaway

I just love hosting movie giveaways. I feel like it’s fun getting to know about new movies. Plus, it’s interesting to see which movies draw a bigger crowd and who enters the giveaway for certain movies. So, I’m happy to host a giveaway for the new to DVD and Blu-Ray on January 10th movie What’s Your Number from Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment. Here is a synopsis on this film.

Ring in the New Year with a fresh and funny tale about dating, relationships and life as Anna Faris (Scary Movie Franchise, The House Bunny) and Chris Evans (Fantastic Four, Captain America) come together in a hilarious quest for “the one” in WHAT’S YOUR NUMBER? After reading a magazine article that insists if a woman has slept with at least 20 people that they have already missed Mr. Right, marketing executive Ally Darling (Anna Faris) begins to panic, thinking that she will be alone forever. With the help of her hunky new neighbor (Chris Evans), Ally starts tracking down all her ex-boyfriends, hoping to find her real true love while she helps him escape his latest fling. Hilarious hijinks and adventure ensues as Ally goes on her wild search for the best “ex” of her life, only to find what she is looking has been right in front of her all along.

Featuring hysterical supporting performances from Chris Pratt (Moneyball, “Parks and Recreation”), Joel McHale (“The Soup,” “Community”) and Andy Samberg (“Saturday Night Live,” Hot Rod), WHAT’S YOUR NUMBER? is based on the book “20 times a Lady” by Karen Bosnak and will be available as a Blu-ray combo pack and single disc DVD.

Paranormal State Season Five DVD #Giveaway

I recently had the chance to watch Paranormal State Season Five on DVD. I decided to review this dvd because I have recently gotten into another show similar to this one on a different channel other than A&E. However, I had never watched this show before. So, I may have had high expectations. Here is a little bit about the show.

Ryan Buell founded the Paranormal Research Society (PRS) to help understand the inexplicable activities that haunted him as a child. One of the most recognized paranormal societies in the nation, the PRS is made up of fellow seekers and warriors who have dedicated themselves to helping people overcome paranormal phenomena and in the unforgettable final season of the hit A&E franchise PARANORMAL STATE, Ryan and his team travel to a quaint New England Town, where a police officer’s family is terrorized by demons; New Jersey, where a beauty salon sits in close proximity to deadly train tracks; and St. Helens, Oregon, where the team learns about the haunted history of the town where ‘Twilight’ was filmed.

Through the use of Electronic Voice Phenomenon (EVP) recordings and video documentation, and with the help of renowned psychics, demonologists, psychologists and counselors, the PRS explores these bizarre cases in the hopes of helping frightened people who have nowhere else to turn. PARANORMAL STATE: THE COMPLETE SEASON FIVE includes episodes such as “Death Room”, “Spirits of the Slave Dungeon”, “Who is the Lurking Man”, “Devil’s Hostage”, “Discomfort at Sweetwater Mansion” and “Get Out of This House”.

I watched several episodes from this set with my boyfriend. However, they were not what I was expecting. I was hoping for some real evidence or use of technology seen in other shows. The team didn’t really do this. They really just “communicated” with the spirits in their head or something. I mean they would say that the spirit had said something or felt upset. However, we (the viewer) never heard/saw anything.

Additionally, they investigate during the “Dead Time”. However, I don’t think it was ever explained what that was. Perhaps, it was covered in previous seasons/shows. However, neither I nor my boyfriend could figure out what it was.

The three disc set comes out tomorrow (August 30th) and it’s the last season of Paranormal State. So, if you’re a fan of the series, you can get your fix. Plus, I’m also hosting a giveaway…

Win Win DVD #Giveaway

I shared the Win Win Printable Grocery List in anticipation of the film Win Win coming out. Well, I received a copy of it and am able to do a giveaway with it. Win Win comes out on DVD and Blu-Ray tomorrow (August 23rd) from Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment. Here is a synopsis of the film:

Win Win is the story about a struggling lawyer and suffering high school wrestling coach Mike Flaherty (Paul Giamatti) delivers an amazing performance showing that in the game of life you can’t always lose them all. Mike struggles through life as a lawyer who in his spare time is a wrestling coach for the local high school where they can’t seem to win a single match. One day Mike comes across a teenage runaway named Kyle (Alex Shaffer), who through some investigating finds out he is a champion wrestler and the team begins to win. With allot of nagging he finally gets Kyle to join the team but his mother who is fresh out of rehab and flat broke looks to mess everything up.

I feel like this was an adult feel good film. I think it’s rated “R” because of the language (lots of the cuss word that is like shoot but it’s not and a couple of f-bombs) and it did show a man’s bare behind briefly. I watched this movie one night alone and enjoyed myself. I really liked that the family took Kyle in and loved him. I thought Mike’s older daughter was adorable since she repeated whatever parents said. Haha! I also thought the man who played Leo (Kyle’s grandfather) was flat-out adorable.

I actually dated a wrestler in high school. Now, he wasn’t any good. Haha! However, I did attend some matches and tournaments. So, I was happy to see that the wrestling side of the story was pretty accurate. I mean from the weigh-ins to the practices and matches, it reminded me of high school.

As you know by now, I don’t giveaway endings or too much of a story in my reviews. So, I won’t ruin it for you. However, I will say that I liked the movie. It had a couple of funny moments and I enjoyed it.

Zin! Zin! Zin! A Violin! Scholastic DVD #Giveaway

A wonderful new dvd set came out on July 26th. I’m talking about Zin! Zin! Zin! A Violin! Scholastic Storybook Treasures Young Artists Collection.

From the musical masterpiece Zin! Zin! ZIn! A Violin to the tale of overcoming stage fright Shrinking Violet and the outstandingly original The Dot, kids and parents will be entertained and inspired to tap into their inner artist! With celebrity narration and songs by Aretha Franklin, Zach Braff and more, this collection provides the perfect primer for young artists, musicians, and performers.

I really like the idea behind these Scholastic Storybook Treasures DVDs. It’s basically a book on video as it has someone reading (or singing) the words as it displays the pictures. You can have the dvd show the words or not show them. I like when it shows them as it’s great for students to put the letters/shapes of words together with their sound/meaning. Plus, since there are different people reading each one, no child should get bored of hearing the same voice.

This particular set is great for inspiring young children to be artists. One DVD contains stories to encourage musicians with stories like Zin! Zin! Zin! A Violin! and The Star Spangled Banner (which is sang by Aretha Franklin and it is beautiful). Another dvd contains stories artists, such as The Dot and Art. Not to be left out, the 3rd DVD is for performers with Giraffes Can’t Dance and Amazing Grace (among others).

I think it’s great that these stories are enjoyable, yet they have a good message. They encourage creativity (which can be stifled in today’s classroom, if not careful), self-confidence, and art appreciation.

I really enjoyed the extras in this set. It features a Spanish version The Dot, Ish, and Amazing Grace. With so many ESL/ELL students (English as a Second Language/ English Language Learners) in the classroom these days, they would appreciate a story in their native tongue and this would be great for them. There is also an interview with Patrick McDonnell.

This is really a great DVD set. Plus, when you enter the code “NKFB20″ at checkout you get a 20 percent discount on orders placed there (through Aug 31).

VeggieTales Princess and Pop Star DVD #Giveaway

You know I’m all for things that are family friendly and good for everyone to watch. So, I’m happy to partner with VeggieTales to promote their newest dvd – the Princess and the Pop Star: A Story of Trading Places. The family-friendly title teaches an important lesson about being yourself, and it will be available beginning August 16th for SRP $14.93 at all major DVD retail outlets.

Here is synopsis on this film:

Princess Poppyseed’s life on her family’s farm is far from the glamorous but lonely world of her favorite pop singer Vanna Banana. On a chance meeting at a playground, Vanna and Princess cross paths and realize that they look almost exactly alike—which leads to the crazy secret plan where they decide to switch lives! As each girl realizes that the life they longed for doesn’t fulfill all of their dreams, they learn that the life God gave them is the one for which they were uniquely and lovingly designed.

With adorable characters, a nice storyline, and fun songs (like “You Never Are”) this dvd is wonderful. I like that it has a positive message while being fun. I think that even some older children would enjoy it.

RIO DVD Giveaway

I already shared with you that Rio takes over beaches nationwide this weekend. So, to get everyone even more excited about the upcoming August 2nd release, I’m hosting a giveaway for a copy of RIO on dvd! Here is a synopsis on the film.

Rio tells the story of Blu (Jesse Eisenberg), a Spix Macaw who is captured from his native homelands of Brazil at a young age to be domesticated thousand of miles away with his human owner Linda. His new owner soon discovers that he is the last male of his kind, and with that , the two head south to Rio de Janeiro to meet Blu’s new mate. However, it is nowhere near close to love at first sight between the socially awkward, flight challenged Blu and the strong and independent extreme flying female Jewel (Anne Hathaway). Shortly after Blu’s arrival, greedy animal smugglers capture the two rare birds and they soon find themselves helplessly lost in the Brazilian rainforest. Unexpectedly thrown together they embark on a hysterical and endearing adventure where they learn about friendship, love, courage and spreading ones wings to fly.

The creators of ICE AGE bring audiences a whole new tropical adventure in RIO featuring the most colorful cast of characters south of the Equator, including George Lopez (Beverly Hills Chihuahua), Tracy Morgan (“30 Rock”), Jemaine Clement (Despicable Me), Rodrigo Santoro (Che), will.i.am (Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa), Jamie Foxx (Dreamgirls), Jane Lynch (“Glee”), & Wanda Sykes(Over The Hedge).

Wow! Doesn’t that sound like a great film packed with so many great characters and actors? I haven’t see RIO myself yet. However, I think it looks to be great!
