As you already know, I’m a huge fan of the Scholastic brand. So, I was excited to learn that Scholastic has a product that is great for children for Earth Day. I’m talking about the Magic School Bus: Oceans app for the iPad. The app is based on the Scholastic book “The Magic School Bus: On The Ocean Floor” by Joanna Cole and illustrated by Bruce Degen. It is a great new resource that parents (or teachers) can use to teach their young ones about the bodies of water that compose roughly 70% of the Earth’s surface. Here is a bit more on the app.
With the Magic School Bus: Oceans app, readers ages 4 and up join iconic teacher Ms. Frizzle and hers class of young adventurers on a wild ride to the bottom of the ocean floor. The highly interactive app engages readers with the story by touching animals, characters, and objects on the iPad screen to reveal fun animations, and nearly 40 real photos and videos of underwater animals and plant life.
Here is an awesome video with a preview of the app. Doesn’t it look cool?
Now, I haven’t actually downloaded or tried the app because I don’t have an iPad. However, it look like it would be a good resource for parents, especially homeschooling ones. I think that it could also work in the classroom given the right circumstances and situation. Doesn’t the game look fun?

I think that it’s at least one of the more educational apps for children. Then again, I expect nothing less from Scholastic.
Disclosure: I received nothing for this post. I just thought this looked like a cool app and wanted to share it with my readers. The opinions expressed are my own.
