Pigeon Forge Titanic Museum Attraction Christmas Decorations

Titanic Museum Attraction Christmas Decoration 300x201 Pigeon Forge Titanic Museum Attraction Christmas Decorations

As you know, I love it when I get to feature the Titanic Museum Attraction. It seems like they are always coming up with something new to display that makes me want to go back and visit. Just in time for holiday season, the Titanic Museum Attraction in Pigeon Forge has been decorated for Christmas! That’s right, they have put up greenery, lights, and Christmas trees around the museum! I was able to take a tour of the newly decorated attraction a week ago and was very pleased with it.

For starters, the outside of the ship is decorated. The light poles have ribbon bows and greenery wrapped around them. Then, there are wreaths on the outside of the museum. Additionally, there is the huge pile of gift boxes (pictured above) outside in front of the bow of the ship. It is perfect for taking pictures with. There’s even a little spot for you to sit down and do so. I love that the packages even say “Titanic” on them so you know where you were when you took the picture.

The inside of the museum is decked-out, too. They have strategically placed decor around the museum so that you are reminded that it’s almost Christmas without it being over the top. For instance, my boyfriend liked that the bags of mail had bows on them. He suggested that kids had written letters to Santa that were being mailed. Additionally, the suites are decorated, too. The second class passenger room had some neat little things while the first class suite had a full size Christmas tree in it.

They also managed to make the grand staircase look even more beautiful. There are two Christmas trees at the bottom of it. Then, there’s pretty greenery and red bows on the staircase. This also means that when you have your picture taken, the background of the grand staircase includes the pretty Christmas scenery. It’s a really nice touch to complete the overall Christmas takeover of the museum.

Vising the museum was the perfect way to kick-off the holiday season. All of the pretty decor definitely helped get me into a more cheery mood. Now, I want to decorate my home for the holidays. So, will you be visiting the Titanic Museum Attraction this holiday season?

Disclosure: I received free passes to the museum. No compensation was received. The opinions expressed are my own.

Titanic Museum Attraction Fireworks on Thanksgiving Giveaway

titanic fireworks 190x300 Titanic Museum Attraction Fireworks on Thanksgiving Giveaway

Back in March, I hosted a Titanic Museum Attraction 100 Years Anniversary Giveaway. Now, I am being allowed to host another giveaway for the Titanic Pigeon Forge Attraction to correspond with the new and upcoming events at the museum.

For starters, they are decorating the museum attraction for Christmas. You can expect to see the entire ship decked out in lights, Edwardian-period decorations, and costumed special guests during the holiday seasons. Just look how beautiful the grand staircase looks. I can’t wait to check it out for myself. Additionally, starting on Thanksgiving weekend and continuing on every Saturday in December, the museum will bring snow to the mountains! That’s right, they will be making snow fall from the ship’s bow to get everyone in that holiday spirit.

To kick the season off right, they are doing a fireworks display on Thanksgiving night! On November 22nd at 7:30 pm, you can enjoy a delightful fireworks show at the museum. They opened the attraction back in 2010 with fireworks. So, they thought it would be a nice way to end the 100 Year Anniversary of the sinking of the ship by paying tribute to those people on the ship. The fireworks will pay tribute to the lives and legacies of the ship’s passengers, crew, and rescuers. Plus, it will be a great way to spend part of your holiday with friends and family (before the madness of the shopping season really gets going).

Digitally Remastered High Definition Titanic Movie DVD Review

Titanic Digitally Remastered High Def DVD 300x121 Digitally Remastered High Definition Titanic Movie DVD Review

I’m sure you already know it, but I love anything related to the Titanic. I have done several reviews on various things related to the great ship. Then, on September 10th, Paramount Home Media Distribution released a digitally remastered HD version of the infamous film starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet. The film is now available in more formats with a better viewing experience. It’s now avialable in 2D and 3D! Also, you can purchase a copy on either DVD, Blu-Ray, or Digital Download. So, there’s no excuse not to watch the film now.

I first viewed this movie when it came to theaters in 1997 (I feel old now). I also received it as a gift when it came out on VHS tape. Haha! I feel ancient for sure now. I actually purchased it on DVD within the past couple of years, too. However, I wanted to see if I could tell a difference between it and the newly digitally remastered version. I wasn’t expecting anything, to be honest. Nonetheless, you can’t deny how crisp and clear the picture is on this one. The movie looks so much better on this one. It makes for a terrific viewing experience. I was pretty surprised by how bright the picture is. It definitely makes a difference to the quality of the movie. I think it’s wonderful.

I also think it’s great that the movie is available in so many formats now. I am excited to be able to watch the movie regardless of what technology I own in the future for viewing films. I also loved that I was able to receive the Anniversary Edition Soundtrack on CD as well as a neat branded journal. I actually purchased the soundtrack on tape when it first came out. So, it’s nice to have the songs on CD now, too. The journal is really cool. It makes me feel fancy and special to have it. I know that any Titanic (film or ship) fan would be happy to own any of these items.

So, have you viewed the digitally remastered high def Titanic yet? What did you think of it? Could you tell a difference?

Disclosure: I received a free copy of the DVD, soundtrack, and journal. No compensation was received. The opinions expressed are my own.

Titanic at 100: Mystery Solved DVD Giveaway

Titanic at 100 DVD Titanic at 100: Mystery Solved DVD Giveaway

Anyone who has been a reader of mine for any length of time already knows all about my fascination with the Titanic. I have done several Titanic related giveaways and reviews. I figured with it being summer and all, it was a great time to feature a great new DVD from the History Channel on the ship. I know that many children are bored during the summer and need some entertainment. I also know (as a hopeful future educator) that many students need to do more educational things during the summer months. So, I know that a good History Channel DVD can help many parents (or interested adults) out.

Having an interest in the ship, I wasn’t sure that I would actually learn anything new from this documentary. However, I was pleased to see some really cool things on it. Here is a synopsis to show what I’m talking about.

To commemorate the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic in April 2012, HISTORY partnered with Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute and RMS Titanic, Inc. for the most extensive exploration and imaging ever undertaken of the wreck site in TITANIC AT 100: MYSTERY SOLVED. For the first time, the entire ship and debris field is made visible in stunning HD and 3D-HD. CGI illustrates what happened structurally to the ship –minute by minute– after the collision. Never-before-seen views dramatically underscore this tragic history.

As the 100th anniversary of Titanic’s sinking approached, a team of scientists, engineers and imaging experts joined forces to answer one of the most haunting questions surrounding the legendary disaster: Just how did the “unsinkable” ship break apart and plunge into the icy waters of the North Atlantic on April 15, 1912? Two years ago, HISTORY took part alongside the world’s top underwater experts in the most thorough and exhaustive study of the wreck ever made. The undertaking yielded unprecedented new discoveries and the first comprehensive map of Titanic’s watery grave, helping specialists solve the century-old puzzle of what went wrong — and determine who or what was responsible.

TITANIC AT 100: MYSTERY SOLVED documents this mission, captures the high-tech mapmaking process, unveils astonishing pieces of never-before-seen wreckage and presents the expedition’s unexpected findings. Unprecedented new technology and expertise was used to create a precisely detailed portrait of the entire fifteen-square-mile patch of ocean floor where Titanic came to rest.

In the twenty-five years since the wreck was located, no one had ever explored and mapped the entire site — nearly half the area remained unseen and unknown, and significant portions of the ship, which could reveal how it broke, were missing. Now, after 100 years, every inch of the entire site is finally known, and every piece of the ship documented exactly where it landed on the ocean floor a century ago. See newly discovered pieces of the ship for the first time, follow the expedition’s new finds, and come to learn the definitive story of how the ship broke apart. TITANIC AT 100: MYSTERY SOLVED will answer the biggest questions about Titanic: did she have a fatal flaw, and if so, who or what was responsible?

I was impressed with the use of technology for sure in this special. I loved being able to see all of the gadgets do some great things. I really enjoyed when they displayed a large size hologram of the Titanic to attempt to figure out where pieces of the ship lay and where they went. It was really neat to see. I also enjoyed seeing all of the artifacts mapped out. It was equally interesting (to me) to hear about the various theories about how the ship sank and then to see them de-bunked because of (new found) evidence. For a person with an interest in the subject, I was pleased to be presented with new information and images. I’m sure that someone who doesn’t know about the ship would enjoy it as well.

This special from the History Channel is jam-packed with information on the Titanic and its sinking. This is a great DVD for any history/Titanic buff, bored young adults and adults. In fact, I’m pretty sure 3 lucky readers will have a more knowledgeable summer because they will win a copy of this on DVD!

Titanic: One Voyage A World of Untold Stories Movie Review

Titanic Television Movie 236x300 Titanic: One Voyage A World of Untold Stories Movie Review

You should be well-aware of my interest in the Titanic since I have featured several products over the past year on it. I just love getting to do Titanic DVD Reviews. So, imagine my surprise one night when I was flipping channels and came upon what appeared to be a made for television movie on Titanic. I caught the last few moments of what happened to be a miniseries story on it. I had never heard of it and was shocked to find it on. Then, a few days later, an email landed in my inbox with info on its release to dvd. Naturally, I wanted to watch it. Here is some quick info on it:

As the world commemorates the 100th anniversary of the legendary tragedy with numerous events, Entertainment One (eOne) will release TITANIC on DVD and Blu-ray only ten days after its premiere on ABC. Penned by Oscar, Golden Globe and EmmyAward-winning “Downton Abbey” creator Julian Fellowes and BAFTA-winning producer Nigel Stafford Clark (“Bleak House”), the innovative miniseries presents an extraordinary re-telling of the doomed voyage, cleverly weaving action, mystery and romance across four engrossing hours.

As it turns out, the series attempts to focus on the difference between the different classes aboard the ship. They try to show the preparation for the trip as well as the interaction between the several characters. You become attached and interested in the characters in the first three hours. Then, the final hour allows you to realize the fate of each one. I thought this was a new and great way to tell some of the stories from the ship. I felt that it really gave a good, complete picture of what it was like on the Titanic.

I also liked the movie had some well-known people in it. My mom actually recognized a man from Law & Order, Linus Roache as the Earl of Manton. I was happy to spot Geraldine Somerville from The Harry Potter films as Louisa, Countess of Manton. I was impressed with the attention to details in this series. I found the clothing and set to be very beautiful. I did find some of the technology-enhanced scenes to appear to be too obviously fake (for me). However, I don’t think it ruins the movie.

You can purchase a copy of the Titanic TV Miniseries on the lovely site linked here which allows you to explore the ship and other things. So, did you catch this on ABC? What were your thoughts on it?

Disclosure: I received a free copy of the miniseries. No compensation was received. The opinions expressed are my own.

Titanic The Complete Story DVD Giveaway

Titanic Complete Story DVD Titanic The Complete Story DVD Giveaway

You know from all of my Titanic Museum posts, that I’m a big fan of the Titanic. You should also know from my most recent Titanic Museum Attraction Giveaway that this marks 100 years since the Titanic set sail and sank. Naturally, when I saw that a DVD set on the Titanic was coming out, I knew I had to feature it.

The “unsinkable” Titanic was a dream come true: Four city blocks long and a passenger list worth 250 million dollars. But on her maiden voyage in April 1912, that dream became a nightmare when the giant ship struck an iceberg and sank in the cold North Atlantic. More than 1,500 lives were lost in one of the greatest disasters of the 20th century. Now, as the 100th anniversary of the sinking approaches this April, the complete sensational history of the premier liner is recounted in TITANIC: THE COMPLETE STORY, now repackaged and re-priced for ultimate collectability.

Using newsreels, stills, diaries, and exclusive interviews with survivors, TITANIC: THE COMPLETE STORY charts the fateful history of the ship and its passengers as well as providing an overview on the popular culture phenomenon that this tragedy has become. The complete story is recounted across three 3 feature-length programs: DEATH OF A DREAM, which brings viewers to the christening of the largest ship ever built, before a cheering Irish crowd of 100,000; then, witness the disaster this trek becomes as numerous iceberg warnings go unheeded and the ship sinks in the icy North Atlantic; THE LEGEND LIVES ON chronicles the stunning sinking, as over-crowded lifeboats edge away from the crippled liner and futile SOS signals flare into the night, leaving 1,500 passengers to a watery grave; and, TITANIC’S ACHILLES HEEL, which follows elite divers as they explore the explosive theory that the doomed liner may have had a fatal design flaw in this doc that utilizes advanced CGI technology, archive documents and photographs, as well as footage from modern-day expeditions.

The three full length documentaries are on two DVDs. This provides the viewer with five hours of material to watch! The first feature provides a look at the ship before it set sail, including the building of it and design. The second one takes a look at the trip and sinking of the ship. Finally, the last one shows the aftermath or people trying to find the wreckage. Overall, it’s definitely a comprehensive look at everything involving the ship. My boyfriend enjoyed the first feature while I preferred the other two. I guess that just goes to show that there should be something for everyone with this set.

Titanic Museum Movie Gallery

Titanic Movie Gallery 300x200 Titanic Museum Movie Gallery

I’ve been so blessed to be able to visit the Titanic Museum Attraction in Pigeon Forge, TN a couple of times now. Every time I go back, they have added somethings and it’s fun to encounter the new stuff. As you may (or may not) know, 2012 marks the 100 year anniversary since the Titanic set sail and sank in the ocean (April to be exact). So, the Titanic Pigeon Forge is trying to commemorate that in some big ways. I was lucky enough to be able to tour it again this past Saturday with my boyfriend.

One of the most recent additions to the museum is a behind the scenes movie exhibit for the Titanic movie. As you can see in the photo above, it includes several cool things. For starters, it has a couple hats actually worn in the movie. It also has some other items from the set, such as a jacket and signed scripts. It also features several fun facts about the movie. It covers things about visual effects, the actors, clothing, and building of the set. I thought it was all so interesting to see. They even had a necklace worth $250,000 that was a replica of the one Rose wore in the movie and Jack sketched her wearing. It also had some cool Rose doll with some fancy outfits. It was fun trying to remember when the different outfits were worn in the movie.

2012 Titanic Ice Carving 224x300 Titanic Museum Movie Gallery

Another thing that was going on while we were there was the ice carving competition. I thought it was interesting to watch the competitors work at carving out something pretty from huge blocks of ice. The picture above gives you a taste of what we saw. We actually didn’t stay too long as it was kind of cold outside.

One other nice thing I wanted to comment on was the Rose Petal Memorial Tribute. Everyone that goes thru the museum now can add a red rose petal to a large container in the Memorial Room. Then,

on April 15, 2012 – exactly 100 years after the RMS Titanic was lost – each of the rose petals will be carefully laid onto the surface of the Atlantic Ocean by the United States Coast Guard International Ice Patrol directly where the Titanic sank.

Wow! Isn’t that something? A petal I placed into a container will actually be taken out to sea in remembrance of those who were on the Titanic. I think that is such a powerful thing.

I can honestly say that I once again enjoyed myself at the museum. It was fun seeing all of the new items as well as some of my favorite oldies (gotta love the Grand Staircase). Every visit to the museum I learn something new. I even enjoy getting to learn a different passenger’s story. For instance, this time I was Hilda Hellstrom. She was a 22 year old from Sweden. Her boarding papers are in the museum and she survived the sinking! Gosh, there is so much to see at the museum. Plus, right now is definitely a teachable moment with the 100 year anniversary quickly approaching.

Have you visited either one of the Titanic Attractions yet? What did you think of it?

Disclosure: I received free passes to the museum. No compensation was received. The opinions expressed are my own.

Titanic Museum Audio Tour Review

Iceberg Museum 300x224 Titanic Museum Audio Tour Review

A year ago, I went to the Titanic Museum in Pigeon Forge and did 3 separate Titanic Pigeon Forge Reviews posts on it. Well, this past weekend, I was lucky enough to make a return trip to the museum with my mother to witness their new audio tour!

The Titanic Pigeon Forge Audio Tour is pretty cool. For an additional $6 (or 2 for $10), you receive a cool personal handheld speaker device. The device has numbers as well as volume controls. There is an adult and youth version of the audio. Around the museum they have several plaques up which have numbers on them. You simply enter this number into your handheld device and press the green button to hear about this part of the museum. The cool thing about this is that you can hear either the adult and/or the youth’s version since both are stored on the device.

Titanic Replica Anchor 300x83 Titanic Museum Audio Tour Review

I really enjoyed the added audio. It means you can get additional information not written up in front of you. Plus, the extremely cool thing is that some of the audio is from interviews with actual Titanic survivors from years ago. So, you can get the facts, plus the experience from the people who were there! I thought that was so neat!

My mother and I tried to listen to both formats of the audio. The youth’s was a little more exciting/fun than the serious adult. However, they are both good. I liked that you can control the volume and you hold up to your own ear. That makes the experience more personal. I definitely think the audio adds something to the experience of the museum.

White Star Flag 300x137 Titanic Museum Audio Tour Review

My mother really liked the museum, as this was her first time seeing it. It was a nice experience that is wonderful for the whole family. As you know from my previous posts, there is something for everyone at the museum. The addition of the audio just makes it even more open for the whole family. Plus, it’s a nice place away from the heat of the day. Haha!

You can keep up with all of the new additions and events at the museum by liking the Titanic Museum on Facebook and following TitanicUSA on Twitter. Additionally, you can text TITANIC to 62447 to receive event information or text ICEBERG to 62447 to receive a discount in the gift shop! icon biggrin Titanic Museum Audio Tour Review
