As you probably recall, I’m a member of the blogger brigade for a certain cell phone company. As such, I’ve received a free phone and compensation to share about the US Cellular Calling All Communities with you. However, it’s a program that I fully support and would like to highlight either way.
US Cellular Calling All Communities
Having had the opportunity to substitute in several different schools, I can see how the economy has impacted schools. I know they all could use some extra cash right about now. Virtually all of them could use some repairs, new books or technology, or a variety of other things. It’s because of the need that I see everyday in the classrooms that I fully support the US Cellular Calling All Communities program.
Now in its fifth year, the US Cellular Calling All Communities will kick-off on my birthday (November 4th) and go until November 25th. US Cellular will be giving away $500,000 to schools with this program. Between those dates, anyone can vote for their local school of choice to win a cash prize. The top 20 schools that garner the most community votes will each win $25,000 to use as they wish to enhance their educational experience. The catch is that each person may vote only once. So, it’s really up to the communities to support their local school for them to get the prize.
Ways to Rally for US Cellular Calling All Communities
US Cellular has come up with some fun ways to garner community support and votes. The possibilities include:
- Share a printable flyer in the community (one will be available once the campaign launches).
- Share a link to the US Cellular Calling All Communities page… This could go on a school’s site, in a classroom newsletter, or you could even share the link on your own social media page.
- Hand out or hang up flyers at local sports events.
- Hang flyers up at local businesses.
- Get the school involved with activities to promote it, like a pie-throwing contest.
You are basically only limited to your own imagination and skills for getting the word out. I think it’s great that US Cellular tries to play such an active role in my (and other customers’) communities by supporting our schools. In fact, since the program began in 2008, U.S. Cellular has awarded $4 million to 56 schools across the country! I think that is a fabulous thing. It feels good to know that some of my money is coming back to the community and kids who need it.
Past winners of the Calling All Communities campaign have used their winnings in a variety of ways to strengthen the learning experience for thousands of students. Many winning schools outfitted their classrooms with new computers, improved outdated infrastructure and renovated gymnasiums, kitchens and science labs. A few gave scholarships to graduating students while others donated some of their winnings to non-profits around the world.
Wow! I think it’s wonderful to hear about the schools making positive changes with the money from US Cellular. You can learn more about the program and view past winners on the US Cellular Calling All Communities website.
