You may have noticed the addition of a new button on the side of my blog. That’s because I’m finally going to Blogher this year! Woot! I am beyond excited about this adventure and can’t wait. Since I’ve already attended several other conferences, you may wonder why I’m extra excited about this one. So, I thought I’d do a quick post on it.
Going to BlogHer
I know this might sound silly (especially to any non-bloggers out there), but going to BlogHer has been a goal/dream of mine for years now. I first discovered the conference in 2009, within months of beginning a blog. However, I didn’t find out about it until July. So, it was too late to go. It was sold-out and I couldn’t pay for the trip anyways. Since then, I’ve entered lots of different contests for the opportunity to attend it for a company. Sadly, I never won any of those contests. Last year, I attended three conferences. However, I didn’t think I could afford this conference, especially since I didn’t know if I would be working (it was held in August last year).
This year though is different. I was (thankfully and finally) selected to be a volunteer at the conference. I’d been applying for a few years, but wasn’t selected. So, imagine my delight when I received a longer email this year stating that I had been selected. This helped with the conference’s costs. Next, I was happy to hear that the conference was in July (instead of August) this year. That means I don’t have to worry about it interfering with my work schedule. No schools start until at least early August here. It doesn’t hurt that my friend Shanaka, from Mama Bee Does, is attending for the first time, too.
I’m going to BlogHer for several reasons. I’m going to fulfill a personal goal of finally attending and experiencing what I’ve read countless blog posts on for years. I’m going to BlogHer to network. Yes, I want to have fun with Shanaka. However, I also want to meet some other people. There are a couple of Noise Girls going and I can’t wait to finally meet them. I also want to meet other bloggers I don’t know as well. It would be a lie if I said that I didn’t want to connect with brands too. I’m going to BlogHer to have fun. I’m really trying to enjoy life more now. I hope I don’t die young like my father, but if I do, I want to die knowing that I really lived and experienced what I want to.
Have you ever attended a BlogHer conference? What was your experience like? If you are attending this year, why are you going to BlogHer?
