Travel Razor Kit Venus Snap is My New Favorite Accessory

March 3, 2014 By Lindsay 3 Comments

It may be March and blustery here, but I’m already planning my summer trips and the new travel razor kit from Gillette is on my must pack list.

Travel Razor Kit

I’ve already got 2 blog conferences on my calendar for this summer. Both of those conferences are in California. So, I’m going to be doing some more flying (woot!). However, that also means that space will be a premium on my flight back (with the swag and souvenirs I pick up). I’m all for a product that will save me some room while giving me the full benefits of using a regular sized one that I’m used to. That’s why I was interested in the travel razor kit that is the Gillette Venus Snap mini razor.

Gillette Venus Snap Razor

The Venus Snap is a mini five blade razor that comes in a portable compact that makes toting it around even easier! I love the portable compact that it comes in because it’s so cute! It’s blue and it keeps you safe because it covers the entire razor. I know that I won’t accidentally cut myself on this razor thanks to the container that it comes in.

I would be remiss not to mention the fabulous mini handle that makes the travel razor kit my new favorite accessory. It is super easy to hold onto and makes shaving a breeze. Plus, the small handle is what keeps the razor so small and portable.

Lastly, I love that this travel razor kit is from Gillette Venus and it comes with the Venus Embrace 5 blade razor! Venus is my preferred brand of razor because it gives me that close shave that only they can provide without making me cut myself. I have actually wondered before why Venus didn’t have a more portable razor. However, they finally do and I’m happy about it.

If you want to pick up a travel razor kit, the Venus Snap, it’s available at Target, just in time for spring break.

I was selected for this opportunity as a member of Clever Girls Collective and the content and opinions expressed here are all my own.

How to Reuse Plastic Bottles with Johnson and Johnson Care to Recycle

February 10, 2014 By Lindsay 52 Comments

Have you ever wondered how to reuse plastic bottles after they are empty? Do you already recycle your plastic products? Growing up, we recycled our plastic. In fact, my mom used to volunteer at the town’s recycling facility. So, recycling is a cause that is close to my heart. However, I must admit that I haven’t been as good at recycling things since I’ve moved out. So, when I received an email about reusing things, I knew I had to share.

Disclosure: I received a package of complimentary Johnson & Johnson products.

How to Reuse Plastic Bottles

While 7 out of 10 Americans say they always or almost always recycle, only 1 in 5 Americans consistently recycle in the bathroom. Many consumers don’t even realize that most products commonly used in the bathroom, such as shampoo, lotion and cleanser bottles, can be recycled.

Each year, Americans throw away enough 15-oz. shampoo bottles to fill 1,164 football fields—that’s 18,000 tons of plastic ending up in landfills. So, this can have a major impact on the environment.

To help make a difference, Johnson & Johnson is launching CARE TO RECYCLE™, a recycling campaign that encourages people to recycle more items from the bathroom. The Care to Recycle website includes helpful information and tips on what can and can’t be recycled and an infographic with additional statistics on bathroom-product recycling.

I found some of those statistics to be very surprising. I hate how much we waste. So, I’m excited to share these next couple of ideas with you. If you don’t know how to reuse plastic bottles and have never done it, then I’ve got some great ideas for you. If you’ve done it before and have other tips, please let me know them in the comments. These are just some great ones to get you started.

how to repurpose plastic bottles

Most of the ideas on how to reuse plastic bottles consist of cutting the top off of it and using it for storage. However, the container could also be used to amplify the volume of the speakers on your cell phone or as a gardening shovel. So, do you have any other ideas for repurposing plastic bottles?

2023 Update: I have found it to be easier to recycle the plastic bottles by keeping a little recycling bin in my bathroom. It’s beside the trashcan, so it’s easy to just toss it in whenever I empty a bottle. This has helped me to recycle a lot more plastic! Additionally, we are very lucky that are our town starting offering a recycle pickup program. So, we just collect our recycling and put it out every other week. I highly recommend looking into recycling programs near you!

Christmas Without Daddy Again: It Is Still Difficult

December 25, 2013 By Lindsay 2 Comments

I can’t believe that I am having my second Christmas without daddy today. While things aren’t exactly like they were the first year without dad, it’s still hard to believe it’s happening again.

christmas without daddy

Christmas without Daddy

My father passed away in early December last year. So, technically last year was my first Christmas without daddy. However, I was so overwhelmed with grief that I was mostly numb when we “celebrated” the holiday. In fact, I don’t remember much that happened last year. I don’t know if that’s good or bad, but I really can’t remember what we did last year. I just remember being so depressed last year and not wanting to be with people.

I can’t believe the time has come to have my second Christmas without daddy. This time, it seems more real. I think that’s because we have traditions for the season that begin with Thanksgiving and dad was around for Thanksgiving last year. So, we were already in the middle of the season by the time he died last year. This is the first time he hasn’t been around for any of it and it’s been weird.

I’ve really missed him lately. I could barely handle my birthday when I realized that he would never again wish me a happy birthday. This year, I wanted to give mom a good Christmas. However, I had no idea what that should entail. I got her a few things she requested and then surprised her with a few more odds and ends. I’m hoping that my gifts and us spending the day with family will make it easier on her.

My dad’s mom used to go all out for this holiday with 2 full meals and hours spent opening presents. I am proud to say that I have lots of great memories of the holidays as a child and I have my dad and my grandma to thank for that. Dad always made sure I had a good Christmas and knew just the perfect gift(s). I think I miss his advice and sense of humor the most.

While it would be selfish to want him back, since I know he suffered something fierce, I still don’t like the thought of Christmas without daddy. However, I guess I have to learn to deal with it.

If you celebrate today, then Merry Christmas. If not, then I hope you have a good day. 🙂

Delicious Golden Grahams Chicken with Honey Drizzle

October 15, 2013 By Lindsay 3 Comments

Did you know that it’s National Cereal Lovers Week? It began yesterday and it continues the rest of this week. Seeing as how I love cereal, I think it’s a fun week which gives me an excuse to eat more cereal. In fact, I received a fun (free) package of cereals and other kitchen goodies to celebrate the week. I also received some tasty recipes that use cereal in a different way. For instance, I received this Golden Grahams Chicken recipe by Amanda Frietag and I tried it out this weekend with my boyfriend. Look at how simple it is!

Golden Grahams Chicken

Golden Grahams Chicken

I think you should be aware of the fact that my boyfriend and I really enjoy chicken. We usually eat it at least once on the weekend. We try to prepare it in different ways, so this Golden Grahams Chicken recipe was right up our alley… It combines my love of cereal and our passion for chicken (perhaps that’s a bit strong, but you know what I mean). See how easy this is to make.

Ingredients

  • 4 Boneless Chicken Thighs
  • 1 Cup Flour
  • Cayenne
  • 2-3 Eggs
  • 1 Cup Golden Grahams Cereal
  • 1/2 Cup Rice Chex Cereal
  • 1 Cup Honey
  • Dashes of Tabasco
  • 1/4 Cup Apple Cider Vinegar
  • Salt & Pepper

Instructions

  • Chop up and combine the two cereals. You may also add 1/2 cup plain breadcrumbs, if you wish.
  • Pre-heat oven to 350. Place 3 bowls on working space, near each other. Put the cereal in one bowl.
  • In another bowl, put in the flour with a dash of salt and cayenne.
  • In the third bowl, add the eggs.
  • Arrange the bowls in a line, starting with flour, then the egg bowl, and put the cereal last.
  • Season chicken with salt and pepper.
  • Coat chicken in flour and then dip into the eggs.
  • Move chicken to the cereal and fully cover it with the cereal.
  • Place the chicken on a baking sheet and give it an optional additional sprinkling of salt.
  • Bake chicken for 10-15 minutes or until the juices run clear when poked with a fork.
  • For the honey drizzle: Heat the honey in a pan on medium heat. Add the vinegar and Tabasco sauce to taste. Then, stir.

The original recipe called for breadcrumbs. However, there was a little mix-up with ours. So, we left it out. Additionally, my boyfriend didn’t want to add the extra salt as too much sodium gives him a headache. So, we used the salt sparingly. Lastly, I ended up preferring plain honey with my Golden Grahams Chicken. It was a nice combination of sweetness (from the cereal and honey) with a little saltiness of chicken and salt. The chicken came out juicy and delicious. My boyfriend said that we would be making it again.

So, what do you think of using cereal to make fried chicken? Will you be trying some Golden Grahams chicken this week?

Halloween Cereal Treats: Monster Mash-mallow Fun

October 10, 2013 By Lindsay 3 Comments

I’m sure by now that you realize that I love to eat cereal. So, imagine my delight when I received a package of the old favorite cereals that are making a re-apperance to stores after 20 years? I’m talking about the Monster Cereals from General Mills. Just in time for a certain spooky holiday, the cereals can be found in stores to add a little more fun to the season. With that in mind, I present to you these easy Halloween cereal treats. Disclosure: I received a free Monster Cereals package with cereal and recipes, including this one.

Halloween Cereal Treats

Halloween Cereal Treats

The recipe cards I received with these Halloween Cereal Treats actually referred to them as Monster “Mash”mallow Cereal Treats. I think that’s a cute title, but I adapted the recipe a bit and so I renamed it. The card has you making all three types at once. We decided to split the butter and marshmallow to make the types separately. It seemed easier as we weren’t trying to make them all at once. Plus, it allowed us to use a smaller pan and fewer bowls as we rinsed it out to be reused. However, you can totally make them all at once. Additionally, we forgot the sprinkles. So, we left those out.

  • 3 cups Frankenberry Cereal
  • 3 cups Booberry Cereal
  • 3 oz butter
  • 15 oz marshmallows
  • 1/4 cup chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup white chocolate chips
  • sprinkles for garnish if desired

Instructions

  • Grease two cookie sheets or muffin tins.
  • Heat 1/3 of the marshmallows and butter in a saucepan over low heat. When the mixture is melted, smooth, and glossy, add 1 of the cereals to it. Mix well and add 1/4 cup chips (chocolate chips for Chocula cereal and white chocolate for Frankenberry and Booberry).
  • Allow the cereal to cool very briefly and then work the cereal into balls with hands. It's at this point you may roll the balls into sprinkles and then place them onto a cookie sheet or in a muffin tin to cool.
  • Repeat the process with the remaining two cereals and serve.

So, are those not some of the easiest Halloween cereal treats ever? Were you a fan of the Monster Cereals as a child? Let me know if you end up making them in the comments.
